Larva Quiz

Only rarely does anyone comment on this blog but if someone reading can identify this larva, please do. I spotted this swinging back and forth across my front yard last week as the larva was working its way out of the coccoon(?).

Moving incessantly, I found it almost impossible to capture a good image so held it for a minute watching the new thing emerge. And then let it go to continue its emerging.

Just curious.

wonderful critter shots.
I am no expert on larva but it looks akin to the tree eating caterpillars we get here in the Northeast. The signs are big web like nests in the trees, in abundance. We've been in a reprieve for a while as some years they have denuded the trees.
I hope I'm wrong.

Hmmm... I'll call the extension division to see about this. It was hanging from one of the hackberry trees. I see no big nests of them though. If it is what you say, I'm glad to have a clue. Thanks for the guess.
