Down the shore

Edwin J. McDermott, c.1960
Longport, NJ

As long as I have these few slides of my father's at hand, and we're on the subject, I'll continue to post them. I'm guessing that my father took this photo because, after arriving in Longport from his Philadelphia office on a Friday evening or Saturday morning and greeting his beloved wife and children, this is where he'd be. In the salty waves that, he promised me, would heal any wound.

Within a mile of this spot is where I spent the happiest moments of my childhood. Tucked behind the front house with awnings is the cottage we rented every summer until it, and the front house (with Mr. Jacobi still in it) washed out to sea in a winter storm.
